This Site is about Successfully Gardening in the Southwestern Deserts of the US.

I had vegetable gardens in Phoenix, Arizona for many years, balancing the very hot dry summers with the mild winters.  Garden planning and timing is quite different in the low Sonoran Desert area surrounding Phoenix than most other locations in the United States.

I moved from the hot low Phoenix desert to the high cool desert area of Albuquerque, New Mexico which has a similar dry climate but a much higher altitude which creates a unique set of conditions for gardening.

My hope with this website is to provide some insight to gardening successfully in these deserts based on years of experience growing vegetable gardens in both climates. I am your average urban small area gardener with some great years of harvest and others not so great.
